I have to confess to having always been somewhat of a novice when it comes to brush skills in the makeup department. Investment in such things has always seemed slightly frivolous when looking at my monthly budget so I’ve opted to spend more on the products themselves rather than invest in high quality brushes. However, chatting to the makeup artist on a recent photo shoot made me seriously reevaluate my thinking. As she talked me through all of the different brushes she was using, each specially designed for a particular product or area of the face, it became clear I’d been missing out on one very important part of the whole makeup application process and that my ‘technique’ was most definitely flawed!
Just watching what she did with each brush made me realise that the type, size, shape and quality of your brush can really make a huge difference when it comes to the application, preciseness and finish of your makeup. So with that in mind, I headed home at the end of the shoot and vowed to make a change in my makeup routine with immediate effect. Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying out a selection of makeup brushes – some recommended, some new and some classic products and I have to admit I’m a convert – they really do make a difference.
