Mineral makeup is on the cutting edge of cosmetics. It combines full-coverage makeup in a range of colors that not only doesn't harm skin with harsh, pore-clogging chemicals but actually nurtures it with pharmaceutical-grade ingredients
History
After being launched in 1998 by Bare Minerals, healthy mineral makeup became all the rage, and similar companies, like GloMinerals, sprung into the high-demand market. GloMinerals was started by Robin Silber-McGee and Ange Gerhart. Today, it produces a wide range of good-for-you makeup products.
Ingredients
GloMineral makeup combines pharmaceutically engineered and natural ingredients. The makeup contains triple-milled high-pigment minerals; nurturing antioxidants; vitamins A, K, C and E; and green tea extract. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide help protect against ultraviolet rays.
Benefits
Because GloMinerals is free from talc, perfumes and chemical dyes and is non-comedogenic---meaning it doesn't block pores---it is safe for sensitive skin. The makeup is ideal for those susceptible to problems like acne or rosacea and for irritated skin, even after harsh procedures like chemical peels, microdermabrasion or cosmetic surgery. The ingredients are designed to combat free radicals, which cause the cell damage responsible for aging.
Products
Unlike some mineral makeup brands which focus mainly on foundation, GloMinerals features a broad line of products including foundation (which comes in 16 different shades), powder, concealer, eye shadow, mascara and even self-tanners. You can also find GloMineral makeup brushes and finishing sponges, among other accessories.
Price
GloMineral concealer costs about $30; finishing powder, $33.50; loose base, $37; smoky eye kit, $36; and pressed base, $39. There are many sites that sell the makeup, and it's best to browse to make sure you're getting the best deal.
