As long ago as 10,000 years BC, people were lining their eyes. The ancient Egyptians, male and female often wore eyeliner of kohl. Not only did it frame the eye but also helped reduced glare from the bright sun – think of football players with grease on their cheeks. In fact, many horses wear “eyeliner” for this purpose and do indeed have permanent eyeliner.
Advantages ofPermanent eyeliner or micro tattooing
Permanent eyeliner or micro tattooing of pigment along, below, or above the lash line not only enhances the eyes appearance but also prevents the smudginess or complete disappearance of the color during sports, perspiring, crying, tearing, or rubbing the eyes. It also is recommended for those with shaking hands who can’t apply a straight line (e.g.arthritis,stroke, or Parkinson's sufferers). It is recommended for those who cannot see to apply a line.
Allergy users find it a relief not to tear onto their freshly applied cosmetics. It boosts the appearance and sense of wellbeing for those with alopecia (hair loss) who have no eyelashes; a fine line drawn can give the appearance of a lash line. It is a benefit for those too busy to apply makeup everyday or for those whom it is impractical to have to apply it (e.g. soldiers, athletes) and for those allergic to cosmetic eyeliner.
Eyeliner Procedure
The simple procedure uses fine sterile needles to tattoo the pigment – usually a brown or black shade under the skin. The color then heals over the next few weeks and is seen through the skin- that is, the skin becomes a filter to see the shade. The eyeliner is never the coal black of topical liner but can be made so by applying black liner over it for those occasions such color is wished.
Ideally, the permanent makeup eyeliner is conservatively applied so it looks natural and makes the eye beautiful. Lashes can be made to appear darker and fuller by proper application. Times and styles change and the liner should be able to withstand those changes. Fun colors and exaggerated slants can be added topically on occasion but if designed permanently, can’t be removed. It’s better to live with a good enhancement, than to suffer for years with dramatic eyes which looked adorable at 20 but ridiculous at 40!
